7 Reasons Why I Love Coffee

WHY do I love coffee, because it tastes yummy, wakes me up and it makes me feel great. Truthfully I love the smell in the morning and the ritual that comes with simply pouring a freshly brewed cup and starting my day slowly and with purpose. I love when the aroma whisks into the bedroom in the morning. I love listening to the percolator brewing my favorite beverage just for me. I love it.

I am not alone. Many people around the world LOVE COFFEE. We are sharing some great reasons to love coffee, now more than ever. Did you know coffee is the MOST traded commodity in the world, above oil.

Now I will not get into which is my favorite brand or even style, that is a long conversation and has too many complexities. Here we are recommending organic, non GMO, ethically harvested coffee. Medium roast to dark roast. Dark has a touch less caffeine. So when I started researching and found this list and these studies on the caffeineinformer.com, great job guys.  I need to tell you I was excited and chose my 7 favorites, I added comments and additional information but they did the work.

Increase your fiber intake

This is not a huge one but FIBER makes a difference. So we wanted to make sure that it was listed . A cup of brewed coffee represents a contribution of up to 1.8 grams of fiber of the recommended intake of 20-38 grams. From the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Relieves some of the Muscle Pain when you are working out:
Yes one or two cups of coffee can cut post-workout muscle pain by up to 48%. From the Journal of Pain, March 2007 So of course I had to test this and it actually is working for me. My last 21 days in a row and little pain vs the big pain of the past with more energy. Love this one.

Reduces suicide risk and Depression
I remember an old article and I cannot find it so fact check me on this. BUT in the early 80’s suicide and depression was a challenge in the northwest, then COFFEE became a huge thing, and suicide and depression went down. NOW every coffee drinker knows you feel GREAT after your favorite cup. A 10-year study of 86,000 female nurses shows a reduced risk of suicide in the coffee drinkers. From the Archives of Internal Medicine. Here is something that might sound crazy, Harvard School of Public Health found that women who drink 4 or more cups of coffee over the course of a day were 20% less likely to suffer from depression. So a couple at breakfast and a couple at lunch and Happy Happy Happy.

Protection against cirrhosis of the liver
Of course, you could just cut down on the alcohol intake. From the Archives of Internal Medicine. Another more recent study also showed coffee’s liver protecting benefits. Yet another study showed that both coffee and decaffeinated coffee lowered the liver enzyme levels of coffee drinkers. This study was published in the Hepatology Journal.

Lowered risk of Type 2 Diabetes
For Men and Women in the USA this is huge, I mean really big. With 10% having diabetes and 7% having it and not yet being diagnosed well a few cups of coffee without sugar could hurt. SO here is the skinny on that: Those who consumed 6 or more cups per day had a 22% lower risk of diabetes. From the Archives of Internal Medicine. A recent review of research conducted by Harvard’s Dr. Frank Hu showed that the risk of type II diabetes decreases by 9% for each daily cup of coffee consumed. Decaf coffee decreased risk by 6% per cup.

Coffee drinkers have less risk of heart disease.
Yes with Heart Disease as high as it is every little thing is hel “About 647,000 Americans die from heart disease each year—that’s 1 in every 4 deaths. Heart disease costs the United States about $219 billion each year from 2014 to 2015.“ According to the Center for Disease Control.  That means while everyone is trashing your daily habit and telling you what you could do with the money you are spending on your Starbucks truth is they might be helping in ways we have not yet seen.

BUT some  Korean researchers found that study participants who consumed 3 to 5 cups of coffee a day were less likely to show the beginning signs of heart disease. Of course we understand that dietary factors should be noted.  Koreans typically have a different diet than do Westerners.

Brazil found that those that consume at least three cups of coffee a day tend to develop less calcification in their coronary arteries. A 2019 study confirmed that coffee doesn’t cause hardening of the arteries even among the study participants who drank upwards of 25 cups of coffee per day. WHo drinks that much coffee?

Coffee reduces colorectal cancer risk.
It can help with Colon Cancer, well we are all ears. Here is what studies have found. Even moderate consumption of coffee can reduce the odds of developing colorectal cancer by 26%. This protective benefit increases with more consumption.

BIG BONUS: Recent research has also shown that coffee may boost a woman’s sex drive, but the fact that it’s only been tested on rats somehow takes the shine off.
